Dental Implant Basics From Dr. Puig

FROM COMMON THINGS LIKE WEAR AND TEAR, TO TRAUMA OR DISEASE, the results can sometimes include permanent tooth loss. Of course, this is something Dr. Puig and her team always do their best to prevent, but sometimes it just isn’t possible. Regardless of the level of loss, oral discomfort and/or a lack of confidence are common results we see people experience. The good news is that today there are beautiful and highly functional solutions.

Implant dentistry is not new, although from its original origins in the 50’s it’s come a long way. Initial discoveries came when scientists learned how bones can fuse with titanium, making natural bone support possible. Today, Dr. Puig uses this original discovery to copy the root and tooth system that your mouth naturally has.

After initial placement of the implant within the gum line, your mouth is given 3–6 months healing time to ensure complete and proper fusion. After the implants have healed, the custom crown, bridge, or dentures can be placed. After this placement (unlike traditional dentures or bridges) the solution is much stronger and long lasting, giving you the confident smile you desire.

As with most dental procedures, dental implants begin with a consultation with Dr. Puig to help with any questions and allow her the chance to create a custom-tailored plan that best meets your needs.
